sustainability Advice

Our sustainability services cover:
Code for Sustainable Homes/EcoHomes/BREEAM Schools and BREEAM Multi-Residential
We carry out environmental assessments on many different types of buildings from residential developments (utilizing both the EcoHomes and the Code for Sustainable Homes criteria), schools, (utilizing the BREEAM criteria for schools), to warden controlled care home communal facilities (utilizing the BREEAM Multi-Residential and Code criteria) laid down by the Building Research Establishment and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
We provide advice on individual schemes to clients, through meeting energy demand from both on and off site renewable resources. We are able to evaluate the energy requirements of individual sites and calculate carbon savings required in order to satisfy Local Planning Authorities as well as Funders, for example the Housing Corporation. We also provide design and cost guidance, utilizing our database of designers and suppliers of renewable energy systems and put forward the most feasible and appropriate solutions.
Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) became available in Great Britain on 1st April 2010, but are currently unavailable in Northern Ireland - although this is under review. Under this scheme energy suppliers have to (compulsory for big six suppliers) make regular payments to householders and communities who generate their own electricity from renewable or low carbon sources such as solar electricity panels (PV) or wind turbines.

calfordseaden have SAP/NHER assessors with extensive experience in providing energy assessments for residential dwellings and can provide both SAP and NHER ratings and Energy Performance Certificates for individual residential units. We also have in-house Construction Domestic Energy Assessors and Domestic Energy Assessors, and Level 3 and 4 Commercial Energy Assessors who can provide advice on energy efficiency. We also advise on compliance with current Building Regulations, the carbon dioxide emissions of a property and the total annual costs of a building for space, water, heating, cooking and lighting appliances. As part of our Sustainable Code/EcoHomes/BREEAM services we are able to provide appropriate advice on energy requirements of schemes.
Sustainability & energy reports
calfordseaden provides detailed sustainability and energy reports that are specifically tailored to meet national and local planning policy requirements relevant to your development. We use a catalogue of benchmark data and energy modeling software including SAPs and SBEM to accurately measure site CO2 levels. The feasibility of all accepted renewable technologies are fully investigated and their practicality discussed from installation, management, and long term usability. This includes the design specific requirements of each technology from plant room and risers sizes to utility spaces in individual dwellings. With the use of modeling software such as AutoCAD and Google Sketchup we are able to provide visual representations of the technologies integration within the site.
calfordseaden are not an advocator of any single technology and aims to provide an educational and team collective approach, so that the client is completely confident in the selected sustainable strategy for their site.
Sustainable drainage systems and rainwater attenuation
We are able to offer guidance on proprietary sustainable drainage systems and components covering the four principle areas of infiltration, flow control, storage/attenuation and treatment.
We are able to offer advice on internal water management systems. With concerns over water resources due to climate and lifestyle change, advice on water management systems provides practical and affordable solutions to reduce the environmental impact on water resources.
Part of our advice in relation to provision of energy requirements from renewable resources includes advice on grant funding. We have a database of grants available for subsidising systems providing energy from renewable resources.
calfordseaden are able to provide training on all matters relating to environmental issues from Code for Sustainable Homes/EcoHomes/BREEAM to sustainability and renewable energy issues.
