Packington Square, Islington
The residents of Packington Estate overwhelmingly voted to transfer their homes to Hyde Housing Association from Islington Council in Autumn 2006. The scheme includes replacing existing properties with approximately 840 new mixed tenure homes, together with the creation of two new landscape squares, a canal side park and the reprovision of the existing shops and community facilities on the estate.
Services are being provided on behalf of The Hyde Group and the Partnership responsible for delivering the private for sale units on the project. These include both the employer's agent/project co-ordinator and CDM coordinator roles. In addition, the project monitoring role is being provided on behalf of Funders. Services for the housing element of the project extend to include the EcoHomes assessor, party wall and rights of light surveyor roles.
As part of this regeneration initiative the constructor, Rydon, have developed a new delivery model for the Prince's Trust's "Get Into Construction Programme". Unlike previous programmes, delivered in ‘classroom-style' environments, the programme at Packington was delivered on site by Rydon employees and by volunteer subcontractors. In 2009, the Prince's Trust recognised Rydon's success in delivering this programme through their "Inspiring Leaders Award". The Trust has been so impressed with the success of Rydon's programme that it now using this as a case study on how best these programmes can be delivered.
