Oldham Sheltered Housing PFI, Oldham

This is the largest PFI funded sheltered housing project in the country and consists of 1453 properties across the borough in three new build schemes, 16 refurbishment schemes, plus eight extra care sheltered housing schemes accounting for 286 properties, one of these schemes being a flagship new build development. calfordseaden are acting as architect, technical adviser, designer and cost consultant to the consortium.

We have worked with the preferred partner since the initial bidding stages acting as technical adviser, designer and cost consultant to the consortium. Our role has then progressed to the provision of architectural design and building surveying services, which are being provided through to the completion of the refurbishment works with the design of all properties due to finish in May 2010.

Some of the individual schemes being delivered under this initiative include:

Hollands Close, Oldham

calfordseaden's architects were appointed to apply their design skills to this particularly challenging existing building which previously provided outdated and tired looking one bedroom flats, with negligible communal facilities. Working within the constraints of the PFI procurement process, calfordseaden were able to achieve planning permission for conversion of the scheme, subsequently being retained to undertake full working drawing packages.

Following the successful refurbishment, the scheme now provides 24 high quality and spacious one-bedroom flats, with additional high quality communal facilities. Despite the scheme comprising of three separate blocks, we were able to provide full disabled access to all areas for residents and

visitors alike.

Lees House, Oldham

Completed as the first Oldham PFI scheme, this comprises 14 one and two bed apartments with communal facilities, built to replace bed-sit accommodation.

Tandle View Court, Oldham

Nearing completion, this scheme comprises 59 one and two bedroom apartments with extensive extra care communal facilities for both residents and the elderly community in the area. The project has been well received locally, provides a significant landmark and is currently being considered for a Local Authority Building Control Quality Award.
