News - the latest from calfordseaden

John Spence, head of architecture at calfordseaden, has recently contributed to the first in a series of specially commissioned industry reports for construction marketers. This CIMCIG report entitled 'The Commercial Value of Sustainability' looks at the opportunities sustainability represents for construction, and the opportunities low impact buildings represent, and highlights the need for greater progress.
Much has been said and written about the significant environmental impacts of the built environment and our need to dramatically change our patterns of consumption if we are to achieve the ambitious goal of an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050. There is no shortage of policy interventions and private sector initiatives which aim to address a wide range of impacts in the way that we build and use our homes, schools, offices, and public buildings, and the infrastructure which supports and connects them. Written and researched by Jeremy Sumeray, the report presents key issues and proposals into how to create markets for low impact buildings and accelerate the take up of sustainable building systems and technologies.
Contributor to this report included: John Spence (calfordseaden), Dr Neil Johnston (Institute for Sustainability), Don Ward (Constructing Excellence), John Tebbit (Construction Products Association), Chris Pateman (Builders Merchants' Federation), Mark Elton (ECD Architects) Bill Wright (Wright Energy and Environment) and Doug Waters (Gatwick Airport Limited).
