2012 Construction Commitments
26/06/08

The 2012 Construction Commitments, developed by the Strategic Forum for Construction's 2012 Task Group in conjunction with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Trade and Industry, covers six areas of the construction process and are designed to promote collaborative working and ensure the successful delivery of the Olympic Games infrastructure, buildings and subsequent legacy. The Commitments cover Client Leadership, Procurement and Integration, Design, Sustainability, Commitment to People and Safety and were developed with the construction industry to showcase the very best of British construction practices, using the 2012 Olympic Games as a live example.

The Housing Corporation adopted these same standards in March 2007 and has expected all bidders to its National Housing Affordable Programme to be signed up to a set of 2012 Construction Commitments adapted for affordable housing providers. These Commitments have replaced the Housing Corporation's previous Clients' Charter as a requirement for bidders.

calfordseaden have recently signed up to these commitments to demonstrate our high level of good practice. We have set up a Construction Commitments Working Group responsible for ensuring our compliance to these commitments and to constantly review and improve our working practices. The Working Group are establishing an Action Plan to strengthen the existing service we provide our affordable housing clients and to ensure consistency of service and delivery on all projects we managed on their behalf. This Plan will ensure best practice and encourage inter-group working across the Practice. Part of the Group's responsibility will be to encourage continuous improvement by regularly monitoring and reviewing our service provision.

Signing up to the 2012 Construction Commitments is further evidence of calfordseaden's commitment to the affordable housing industry and to ensuring that good practice is shared throughout the construction industry.
