Hayes School, Bromley

Hayes School, Bromley
calfordseaden's architects are working with Hayes School to establish a master plan to develop a new campus for 21st century learning.
Set in urban open land on a sloping green and wooded campus adjacent to the conservation area of Hayes Village, the school already has an excellent reputation for educational and sporting prowess and is looking to further enhance its facilities given the everchanging curriculum and teaching methods. Like many schools Hayes has developed piecemeal over time. The current head teacher, senior management team and governors are keen to see the school redeveloped to inspire future generations. The existing teaching spaces need upgrading to meet the future learning needs of the school role and hugely successful 6th form.
In conjunction with the School, we have already undertaken consultation with Bromley Council on the draft plans. The Council they have asked us to submit, for the approval of Councillors, an outline Masterplan to show how the school will development in the long-term. The masterplan has been development of the following principles:
-
New accommodation which is fit for purpose and which is built to the highest sustainable standards possible;
-
Low energy building and renewable energy facilities on the site;
-
Relocating car parking; and
-
Safer access to the school with daytime access for vehicles from Baston Road only and pedestrian access from West Common Road.
It is intended that the school will operate as normal during any building works and there will be occasions when the amount of building on the school exceeds our current establishment. However, at the end of the process, the school will be more compact and will provide more outdoor space for the pupils.
