Forthcoming & recent Events
Terry Keech, calfordseaden’s in-house sustainability expert, was asked by English Heritage and Shape to give a presentation on sustainability within existing and historic buildings. The presentation venue was the Dragon Hall in Norwich and was attended by, amongst others, conservation officers, architects, building control officers and construction professionals. The main aim of the presentation was to illustrate the potential to create sustainability environments within the existing and historic buildings by both looking at the passive approach of reviewing insulation and low energy technologies, and also looking at what the building could contribute through its original design.
The presentation expressed the importance of the holistic approach to sustainability and the use of low energy and low maintenance solutions wherever possible. Many of the modern technologies we are now using to tackle climate change have their origins in historic building design and early energy concepts. We need to be ever mindful of this and sometimes go back when looking to the future for our practical sustainable solutions.
