Diagnostic Clinic, Clapton Common

Our London architects obtained planning approval for a private diagnostic clinic in a late Victorian, end of terrace house in north London.

The change from its multi occupancy use was a problem, made more difficult by the fact that the facilities needed could not be provided in this type of building and approval would not be given to demolish the building. It was decided that the priority was to secure an approval for change of use and the application was amended to allow for a split-level scheme retaining the front elevation.

During this time the client had been negotiating for the purchase of the adjoining site in order that a more comprehensive facility could be provided.   We then commenced negotiations with Hackney's Planning Department on the basis of complete demolition of both existing houses. This proved to be a protracted process, as residential accommodation was being lost, and therefore a great deal of background had to be provided in order to impress on the Local Planning Authority the fact that the provision of the facility would outweigh that loss.

Once completed, this Private diagnostic clinic will include MRI & CAT scanning facilities, and other state of the art medical technology and consultation rooms for seven doctors & consultants.
