Cromwell Way, Farnborough
The development of a growing number of sites currently occupied by private garage courts for Pavilion Housing Association is proceeding apace. Planning consent has been received for three of the first tranche of six sites and a further eight sites are being brought forward for consideration.
Cromwell Way is the first of these projects to be completed, converting a previously underused and vandalised plot of 33 garages into five 3-bedroom dwellings with large gardens built to level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The next of the schemes to be constructed is due to go on site in February, and will provide nine new flats on the site of an existing block of 10 garages. The Housing Association are delighted with the way that the sites are being transformed and the response from local residents, although generally mixed throughout the planning phases, has been overwhelmingly positive now that projects are beginning to take shape. Although the loss of garages is a contentious planning issue, the provision of high quality housing is providing a welcome boost to landscape of the surrounding localities.
